The technique behind Ethno-Pop Art
Art that shines: The unique Ethno-Pop Art Experience
Eva Bur am Orde's working method is characterized by a serial creative process. By developing each image within a series, she creates a harmonious whole in which each work still stands on its own. In the advanced stages, she focuses intensively on a single piece, entering a creative 'flow' where the work seems to come to life almost effortlessly.
For her works, she prefers medium-weight Flemish linen, which offers ideal properties for medium and large formats due to its robustness and texture. A triple priming with acrylic paint, applied in two longitudinal and one crosswise layer, forms the stable foundation for the entire artwork. Each layer requires a full day to dry—a process that demands not only meticulous care but also a high level of patience. This creates a perfectly prepared surface that meets the demands of precise and vibrant color application.
Her creative process often begins with an intense underpainting in vibrant yellow, symbolizing light, cosmic energy, and divine love. This base color permeates the entire work, giving it a warm, positive aura. To achieve precise proportions and composition of the visual elements, Bur am Orde employs a grid technique: a rough grid is overlaid on the reference image and proportionally transferred to the canvas. The basic structures are sketched with charcoal and then traced with fine brushes and bold oil paints, solidifying the composition and creating clear contours.
The choice of colors is intuitive and guided by their psychological impact. Eva Bur am Orde works in a meditative process, thinning her oil paints with linseed oil to achieve a smooth, easily workable consistency. Through meticulous blending and the application of delicate color transitions, she achieves extraordinary expressiveness and a vibrant surface texture. Multiple layers of paint, each requiring complete drying, create a rich, almost three-dimensional effect. The result is artwork that captivates with depth, radiance, and vitality, putting Eva Bur am Orde's artistic vision to life in a striking and powerful spotlight.
